Google Allo is latest addition to the
plethora of messaging apps out there, but as is with newest messaging services
it has a unique trick up its sleeve. Allo has google assistant (similar to now)
built into it, it is basically like a messaging service built around a chat
bot. you can chat with the assistant, and like with any other bot, it can help
you with searching, traveling, reminders, daily quotes, weather forecasts etc.
it does have a bit of a personality, so chatting with it is quite fun (you can
actually type “I’m bored” and expect it to play with you), until and unless you
ask it to tell you a joke(it cracks really bad jokes). Allo gets really
interesting when it comes to normal conversations, because google is reviewing
all the chats, and gives quick responses that you just have to click on, it
gets better at these, if you use the app more often, and you can ask google to
directly respond a question or help you with a booking etc., by just typing
@google in the message. This feature can help you search movies, book tickets,
settle factual disputes etc. all this leads to questions about the safety of
the content of the messages, Google does say that it just uses the messages for
processing and does not store the information, Edward Snowden warned everybody
about potential information leaks. Google does provide a solution in the form
of incognito chats, which are encrypted and will be destroyed after a pre-set
amount of time though it does not offer any of the cool, unique features. Allo
does what all messaging apps do too, you can form groups etc. You can send
messages to non Allo users, but they get sent as regular text messages, though
it will provide android users with a link to download the app, there is no such
feature for iOS users. Google Allo is a great messaging app, with a very
special trick up its sleeve, but it has to become much more popular in order to
survive.
